+John
of the Cross+ 1591
Through
trials and darkness fear and temptation
You
look for deliverance and some revelation
With
no song of spring you wait for the call
Could
there be nothing at all…Oh Sing
Joy
joy joy in the morning
Joy
joy in the afternoon
Joy
joy joy for the child is born
This
night the promise is given to you
Sing
Joy by Peter Mayer
John
of the Cross wrote about The Dark Night of the Soul. If you’d like to read The Dark Night of the

One
of the central themes of my sabbatical was to try and understand the connection
between art and the gospel. I am intrigued by the sudden resurgence of interest
in THE HOBBIT. The movie opens us today
in theatres across the country. In Lent 2013 we’ve set aside for some time for
our confirmation students and their mentors to talk about THE HOBBIT. It is all part of our Lenten them,
“Experiencing God through Art - ALL THINGS BEING MADE NEW.” I know it’s a
little early to talk about Lent when Advent is just about half over, but hey,
that’s just how I roll! Check out the
trailer to THE HOBBIT here.

Ware has written a book entitled, Finding God in The Hobbit. View HERE
So,
my friends, today you can mark on your calendar, it’s just one week, until
National Flashlight Day! And while you’re at it, give thanks for JOY and let
the light of your soul reflect the brightness of God’s love and peace.
